female and male omega
I have not personally heard of a gamma wolf, but in the scientific nomenclature the term omega wolf is often used. The omega wolf is one or more wolves, male or female, that occupy the lowest position in the pack hierarchy. This wolf often plays the role of the scapegoat. They can be male or female wolves, at least yearlings and often older, as pups do not feel the pressures of the hierarchy until they are older.
Traditionally, there are alpha, beta, delta and omega wolves. The alphas are at the top, betas in the middle, and omegas at the bottom of the pecking order. The rest of the pack picks on omega(s). The omega role is more pronounced in captive packs where that individual can not disperse and is forced to live with the pack.Omega male wolves are male wolves that aren't treated equally as others in that pack. They usually do the dirty work that is required. Omegas can be male or female. Omegas usually get in their position because they have done something wrong to the pack. An omega in a wolf pack is the lowest rank. They protect the alpha and hunt for the pack. They also are forbidden to mate with a female born from the alpha male. The Lord is, as mentioned in Revelation 1:8: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. In the wild, we tend to see that if life is dismal at the bottom of the order then that bottom-dwelling wolf leaves the pack. |
